HOUSING SELECTION FOR 2016-2017

SOPHOMORE, UPPER CLASS, GRADUATE, PROFESSIONAL STUDIES, AND DMA STUDENTS

If you will be a sophomore during the upcoming academic you are required to live on campus. MSM believes in the experience of cultivating a community of musicians, and living on campus is the first step toward becoming a part of the thriving musical environment.

If you will be a junior, senior, graduate, professional studies, or doctoral student you are not required to live on campus. If you wish to live on campus must participate in the housing selection process. Due to the need to reclassify our floor designations, ALL students who will be residing on campus for the upcoming school year will need to participate in the Housing Selection Process. Students will not be able to remain in their current rooms and bypass the selection process as they have in the past. If, throughout the Selection Process students are eligible to live on their current floor and their previous room is available, they will be able to select that space.

USE OF SPACE

Due to the first and second year student residential requirement, some specific floors and rooms will become available as the Housing Selection process evolves. For example, floors 7 and 8 will be held exclusively for incoming first year students. When Rising Sophomore students begin selecting housing they will be able to choose from rooms on the 9th, 11th, and 12th floors (these floors are only examples - actual floors are subject to change). Once all rooms on those floors have been selected, the Office of Residence Life will make spaces on the 13th floor available. EXEMPTIONS & MEDICAL ACCOMMODATIONS

First Year students who would like to be considered to live off-campus must complete and return the Housing Exemptions Form by March 31st. Forms are available on the MSM Student Website or at the Office of Residence Life. The completed form and accompanying documents should be submitted to the Dean of Students Office.  You can submit your completed forms electronically, by email, fax, or post.  You must apply for exemption from this requirement each year if you are required to live on campus.  Keep in mind, exemption requests are often denied and it would be ill-advised to make alternate housing arrangements prior to receiving a confirmation that your request has been approved.

Any student who would like to live in Andersen Hall and requires specific medical accommodations should complete and return our Medical Accommodation & Physician Verification Forms by March 31st. Forms are available on the MSM Student Website or at the Office of Residence Life. The completed form and accompanying documents should be submitted to the Dean of Students.  You can submit your completed forms electronically, by email, fax, or post. The Office of Residence Life will make every effort to meet the needs of incoming students.

ONGOING ROOM ASSIGNMENTS AND WAITLISTS

Due to the first and second year student residential requirement, specific floors and rooms will not be available for the housing selection process. This restriction will limit the number of spaces that will be readily available for returning students to select and may result in a waitlist for housing. When the demand for space for first and second year students has been satisfied, the additional spaces will be offered to students based on the processes listed in this document. Any additional questions can be answered by contacting the Office of Residence Life. Waitlisted students will be notified of their status, and will be contacted and placed as rooms become available.
